Career Callout: Journalist

Journalism is an often-overlooked job that is one of the most important in our modern world.

Journalists can work in many different fields: broadcast journalists present the news on live television, radio journalists present the news on live radio, and press journalists write the news in newspapers and online publications to name a few examples.

The average salary for a journalist in the United States is $62,000 a year.

In this segment of Career Callout, we sat down with Karen Kasler, a journalist working as the Statehouse Bureau Chief for Ohio Public Media. In her work, she covers news surrounding the state government, the legislature, and Ohio elections for public radio stations.

Kasler attended college and earned a master鈥檚 degree in journalism. She has worked many different jobs in the field throughout her career, including working for radio stations and television stations.

Every day is different at a journalist鈥檚 job. The main thing journalists need to keep in their work is objectivity. Objectivity is ensuring that news being reported on is not the journalist鈥檚 personal opinion.

Journalists work every day to make sure facts, and news is accurately delivered to the world.

鈥淎nd I think that the real highlight is I get to see history as it happens,鈥 she said.
