Did you know that cats can observe Ramadan too?
In the religion of Islam, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and is a holy month of fasting. It is considered a holy month because it is believed to be the month in which the Quran, the Islamic holy text, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
During this month, Muslims observe sawm, which involves abstaining from food, drink, and physical needs from dawn until sunset. They begin their day with a pre-dawn meal called Suhur and end the day with an evening meal called Iftar which is shared with community and family.
The ‘Ramadan cats’ is a trend going viral on the social media app TikTok. Observers of this fasting are filming their cats waking up with them at early hours of the morning, disrupting their schedules as well, just to be a part of the meal!
This trend is not just about the cute cats, it is also helping to grow understanding of the religious practice of Ramadan and its importance in the religion of Islam!
