Politics On Point: The Cleveland Metroparks

Today we are learning about the Cleveland Metroparks and the role the government has in its funding!

The Cleveland Metroparks is the oldest park district in Ohio. It was founded by William Stinchcomb on July 23rd, 1917. He lobbied the Ohio legislature to establish the metropolitan park district.

The Metroparks are funded from a levy, or a tax, that was passed by local voters to support the expansion and maintenance of parks and green spaces in the region. It is governed by a three-member board of park commissioners who oversee operations.

The Cleveland police have a special division of Cleveland Metroparks police who ensure the safety of the lands.

It's funny that all the work done indoors is what's allowing me to take a sunny break outdoors!
