In Her Hands—Neave Trio (Chandos 20368)
WCLV last featured a new release by the Neave Trio of music by women composers in March 2024. Then, A Room of Her Own featured works by Lili Boulanger, Cécile Chaminade, Germaine Tailleferre, and Dame Ethel Smyth. In Her Hands, released this year just in time for Women’s History Month, offers a three-course meal. The appetizer: Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio of 1846, considered a great success by, among others, Johannes Brahms. The main course: Piano Trio No. 2 in a Op 34 of 1910 by the self-taught Croatian composer, Dora Pejačević. And for dessert: Cécile Chaminade’s charming Piano Trio No. 2 Op 34, written in 1886.Kudos to the Neave Trio’s talented chefs members, Anna Williams, violin; Mikhail Veselov, cello and Eri Nakamura, piano. You have a chance to hear the Neave Trio live when the musicians come to the Chautauqua Institution Monday August 17 2026 for a 4pm recital.
