Parade the Circle
In tandem with the Cleveland Museum of Art鈥檚 110-year anniversary, returns for its 34th iteration on Saturday. The 鈥淢omentum鈥 theme draws inspiration from the museum鈥檚 鈥淎merican Printed Silks鈥 exhibit. Lead artist H茅ctor Castellanos Lara channels his memories of a garment-making childhood 鈥 the clicking, whirring and perpetual movement of hands and machines. The procession begins at 10 a.m. on Wade Oval at University Circle, while the puppet making and display of past parade creations opens at 1 p.m. inside the museum鈥檚 Ames Atrium.
Juneteenth
Black history, culture and talent abound with Juneteenth celebrations around Cuyahoga County. On Sunday, join the for 21-year-old Cleveland Heights native Laila Edwards, the first Black woman to win an Olympic gold medal in hockey, running from Forest Hill Park to the Community Center. Dance the night away Friday at Near West Theatre鈥檚 in the Gordon Square Arts District, with various dance styles, electronic funk music and poetry readings. And, take care of yourself and the community by stopping by the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center鈥檚 Saturday at the Midtown Collaboration Center to raise awareness of cancer's disproportionate impact on Black families. There will be music, activities for kids and healthy snack demos too.
'King James'
Art meets athletics in the basketball-themed comedy 鈥,鈥 presented by Rubber City Theatre. Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Cleveland native Rajiv Joseph, the play unravels the up-and-down friendship between a bartender and a writer through the lens of their mutual fandom of LeBron James. Catch the show Friday through Sunday at the University of Akron鈥檚 Sandefur Theatre.
Journaling in Geauga
Sketch, write and collage away your troubles at Geauga Park District鈥檚 Life in a Riffle this Sunday and Monday. The park鈥檚 73-acre Sunnybrook Preserve, where you can trace rolling hills or listen to gurgling streams, is the perfect source of inspiration. Open to all skill levels, registration fees include a new journal and pen to get you started.
ChamberFest Cleveland
The 14th annual kicks off three weeks of festivities on Wednesday, exploring cross-continental influence between musical traditions. An internationally acclaimed violinist performs original arrangements of classical pieces at the Dunham Tavern Museum on Thursday, while ensemble pieces inspired by techno beats and Romanian folk music light up Harkness Chapel at Case Western Reserve University on Friday. Saturday features Mozart, Bloch and a multimedia performance of Native American art at the Cleveland Institute of Music鈥檚 Mixon Hall.
