Downtown Cleveland is expecting big crowds for two major events on Saturday — and road closures could create logistical headaches for drivers.
Pride in the CLE, organized by The LGBT Center of Greater Cleveland, officially kicks off at 11 a.m. with a march that will travel from Public Square to the festival's main events on Malls B and C. Festivities will continue until 6 p.m. with local vendors, food trucks and live entertainment.
While meteorologists expect thunderstorms, the LGBT Center said that the festivities will continue "rain or shine." Last year’s Pride drew more than 42,000 attendees, the Center said.
Adding to the expected crowds, Cleveland is also hosting an international soccer game Saturday. It will be a friendly match between Brazil and Egypt at Huntington Bank Field starting at 6 p.m., part of meant to drum up excitement ahead of the FIFA World Cup tournament.
The game will be the first between the two teams since 2011. The Brazilian national team is the most decorated in the history of the FIFA World Cup, while the Egyptian national team is Africa’s oldest.
Those planning to drive Downtown should be aware that portions of major roads including Superior Avenue, East 9th Street and Lakeside Avenue will be temporarily closed. The City of Cleveland is people to plan their trips early to allow extra travel time and consider taking public transportation to the events.
