Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority launched account-based ticketing, reloadable Smartcards and fare capping Monday to provide riders with new, more affordable ways to cover the cost of a ride.

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority received $130 million through the Rail Vehicle Replacement Program from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The new rail cars, manufactured by Siemens Mobility, will be ADA accessible, and come with 52 plastic passenger seats, two wheelchair-accessible seats and four-bicycle capacity per rail car.

The proposed project could replace 69 of the current, aging rail cars with up to 60 new rail cars. If approved, the project could lead to easier rail maintenance and the creation of new service.
