From powerful music to old-fashioned fun, Northeast Ohio offers opera, floral art, a cultural celebration and more this weekend.

Brave work

The Cleveland Orchestra鈥檚 latest humanities festival is an opportunity to consider how courage shows up in your life. The centerpiece opera, reminds conductor Franz Welser-M枚st how his father participated in a student movement against Hitler, according to the program notes. The first orchestra performance of 鈥淔idelio鈥 is Saturday at 7 p.m. at Severance Music Center. The festival features jazz, poetry and more through next weekend.

Burst of blooms

Follow your nose to University Circle for a . Members of the Garden Club of Cleveland are creating a large-scale display of donated and upcycled plants and flowers in front of the Cleveland Botanical Garden at Wade Oval for all day Saturday viewing. And it鈥檚 a look-and-touch display: Visitors can grab a flower to go while they last.

Weird and wonderful

All things bizarre are beautiful at . From cosplay to crafts to tattoo art to tabletop games, the Canton festival features a costume contest, exotic animal demonstrations and live music. The latest edition hits the Stark County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday. If you miss it, there will be other installments around Northeast Ohio in the coming months.

Sporty throwback

Spend an afternoon in the 1800s on the lawn at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron on Sunday. (a nod to before America鈥檚 pastime became one word) takes the field with games at noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m. The players follow 19th-century rules, older than the historic mansion that housed the Seiberling family beginning in 1915. Between games, check out the impressive house and gardens.

Flavorful fun

The returns with another weekend of great food, culture and community. Catch a dance or musical performance while you enjoy the cuisine and company on Saturday and Sunday at E. 27th Street and Payne Avenue. Highlights of the fest this year include an Asian-pop dance competition, fashion show and the popular egg roll eating contest.
