Noon(ish): It's #GivingTuesday!

For #GivingTuesday, ideastream's Senior Arts Reporter/Producer David C. Barnett and Communications Specialist Pat Miller share what they love about public media (besides working here!) and why they give.

The view from the Idea Center

鈥淭ake a picture, it lasts longer!鈥 Remember that schoolyard retort?

You used it to get someone to stop staring at you. Perhaps they were staring because they saw your underwear as you went down the slide in a skirt. Saying 鈥渢ake a picture, it lasts longer!鈥 helped restore your dignity. (At least it did for me.)

In Mentor, a picture-taking initiative is helping schoolkids in a different way. Since attaching cameras to school buses in February, police say they鈥檝e issued 10 times the number of citations for driving past a stopped school bus.

These maneuvers, intentional or not, are a real threat to kids鈥 safety. Earlier this year, . They survived. Other children aren鈥檛 so lucky. In Indiana, .

. The legislation would also provide money for more bus cameras, like the ones Mentor is using.

鈥淭ake a picture, it last longer!鈥 isn鈥檛 just a way of restoring order on the playground. It may help restore order on the roadways . And keep kids safe.

See you bright and early on the radio tomorrow morning,
Amy Eddings
