Birthright Citizenship
President Donald Trump has been vocal about his desire for the U.S. Supreme Court to eliminate birthright citizenship. That principle is a constitutional right that has existed in this country since shortly after the Civil War. It says that anyone born within the borders of the U.S. is a citizen of the country.

But that principle is now being debated by the highest court in the land.

Thursday on the "Sound of Ideas," we kick off the program hearing from several immigration law experts about the history and significance of birthright citizenship. They also dig into the potential impacts of a ruling where birthright citizenship is eliminated, and why it's notable that President Trump was in the courtroom for oral arguments.

- C茅sar Cuauht茅moc Garc铆a Hern谩ndez, Professor of Law, The Ohio State University
