In "Ulysses S. Cat and Other Animals I Have Known," NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday Host Scott Simon shares moving tales of animals who have crossed his path.

Since the beginning of time, animals have been intertwined in humans' lives. Pets provide comfort, laughter and companionship, and, of course, heartbreak when they cross the rainbow bridge.

The importance of pets and the lessons they can provide are explored in a new book, "Ulysses S. Cat and Other Animals I Have Known" by NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday Host Scott Simon.

The book is a collection of essays, many about Simon's current pets including a French poodle named Daisy, whom he uses a French accent to describe, and a cat named Gato Blanco.

Simon also shares stories about animals he's met while reporting across the world for NPR.

Ӱҵ's Anna Huntsman recently spoke with Simon about the book and the animals featured in it, including a rather unusual pet whose name you might recognize.

Guests:
- Anna Huntsman, Akron-Canton Reporter/Producer, Ӱҵ
- Scott Simon, Host, NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday and Up First

Anna Huntsman covers Akron, Canton and surrounding communities for Ӱҵ.
